The magazine reported that she had done 'nothing wrong' - all she did was have a monogamous sexual relationship with a young man, later diagnosed with AIDS. She was ignorant of the consequences of sex outside of marriage and it's a well known fact that ignorance can kill us. I also disagree with the magazine's conclusion that condoms would have been the answer.
According to Molly Kelly, who speaks to thousands of High School students each year, there is a percent failure rate in condoms. This figure agrees with the findings of the condom manufacturers themselves, some of which have found that the AIDS virus is actually small enough to slip through a flaw in the latex in a condom which has not broken. Molly is not popular among some of the Christians because she stresses the practicality of remaining celibate outside of marriage rather than the religious aspects involved. When I was growing up, I was not from a Christian home but had no intentions of having sex outside of marriage I did not even allow touching until after my husband and I got married - he was celibate before marriage also. I desired celibacy simply because I felt it was the best choice for me. To begin with, a little known fact about the physiology of women and you will never hear this from Planned Parenthood!
