Two former Shreveport firefighters accused of hiring a prostitute for an intellectually disabled man at Fire Station No. The agreement includes dismissing a more serious felony charge -- cruelty to the infirm -- made against the men. Additionally, another defendant in the prostitution case is expected to be named Wednesday, according to Caddo Assistant District Attorney Dale Cox.
He says the new person is not a firefighter and doesn't work for the Shreveport Fire Department. Clint Richardson, 28, and Jason Vaughan, 35, will agree to testify truthfully for the state against their former Shreveport Fire Department colleagues, Derrick Harris, 51, and Billy Glass, 38, during their trials on the prostitution charge, Cox said.
The trials begin Thursday. Vaughan's attorney, Stephen Glassell, confirmed the arrangement but would not provide further details. Peter Flowers, who represents Richardson, could not be reached in time for publication. Randy Chandler, 51, another firefighter, isn't charged with hiring a prostitute but is accused of cruel acts against another mentally disabled man. His trial starts Dec. Cox said Richardson and Vaughan's lawyers suggested the plea bargain.
The upcoming trial had "a miraculous way of focusing attention on their situation," Cox said. The two were the least culpable of the four firefighters accused of hiring a sex worker, Cox said. He added that based on evidence he expects to present at trial, Harris' conduct "was the most onerous of all of them," placing Glass as the second-most guilty of the crime.
Glass's lawyer, Randal Fish, declined to comment. A call to Harris' attorney Carl Franklin was not immediately returned. Richardson and Vaughan will be sentenced by Judge Ramona Emanuel on their prostitution-related charge. Twitter: mayalau. View Comments View Comments.
