Akwa Ibom State University is a young institution, but we have attracted experienced academic manpower, notably; professors; and lecturers that recently obtained their doctorate degrees from British, Canadian and American Universities and returned to join our faculties; while academic staff with first class and second class upper degrees are being sent abroad for post-graduate training in centres of excellence.
Consequently, our degree programmes are very current in curriculum content, laboratory facilities and ICT support including the e-library. Such are the excellent foundations, beginnings and legacies that Akwa Ibom State University inherited, to which our students will be exposed. It is important for students to appreciate our academic environment; the caliber of academic staff who will teach them; and the academic standard they will be expected to attain.
Other faculties which offer degree programmes in the University are: the faculty of arts, for programmes in the humanities; the faculty of education; and the faculty of social and management sciences. Once again, we welcome you to our website. There are academic staff with 36 Professors in various disciplines.
There is an active program of staff training to ensure that all academic staff acquire higher degrees, with emphasis on PhD degrees. We place great premium on our quality of teaching and research, and are focused on the expansion of excellence and diversity of our research across disciplines. We believe that the integration of teaching and research must be maintained, if the students are to ultimately benefit from exposure to constantly expanding frontiers of knowledge.
In furtherance of our desire to expand the use of ICT in the University, broadband internet access has been extended to fully cover the 2 campuses of the University. The University among other things, deploys software applications to automate most of its processes. The University has an ultra-modern Theatre Arts Studio and a state-of-the-art English language laboratory. We are also collaborating with the Government of Akwa Ibom State to diversify into various commercial agricultural enterprises, to ensure food sufficiency.
